Couples Motivation

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

People who work out with a friend tend to achieve their fitness goals easier and in less time.  It is believed that the buddy system keeps each person accountable and on track.  Disappointing yourself by not attending fitness training one day is easy to do, but if you disappoint a friend by not being there to support them, it’s a lot harder to get over.

Couples, whether friends or significant others, can keep each other motivated by working on a plan together.  The first motivational tip is to set a time of day to work out that suits both of your needs.  If you’re a business professional and your partner is a stay at home mom, it’s not likely that early a.m. hours will be doable.  Instead, schedule time around the lunch hour.  A meet up at the club for an hour at noon or the park for an hour to take a quick walk will do wonders for your metabolism and your relationship.

Secondly, select a fitness club where you can both enjoy each other’s company.  It is common impulses to slide on your headset and walk to the music, but if you really want to keep your partner motivated you need to turn this time into quality time.  Instead of getting lost in the rhythm of a song, try challenging your fitness buddy to time endurance on the treadmill.  The loser has to buy the energy drink after the workout.

These are just a few motivational tips to help you stay engaged in your fitness routine.  Please feel free to send us your motivational tips by adding them to the blog comment section.
